Doing a speech on this and was wondering what the world thinks...

12-21-12?

End of the world or just another hump in the road?

Obama allows WWIII to start on that day because he lets Iran get nukes and they use them on Israel.

Realistically it doesn't mean anything. For the Mayans at the end of one of their period thingies they'd abandon their cities and start new ones for whatever reason. However they got wiped out in the end of the last cycle so there you go. It doesn't really apply to the rest of the world unless we see a ton of illegal immigrants flooding in to our cities.

It doesn't mean shit. It's just another day in our history. Mayans got lazy and said "RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO it no one is going to live past here no sense continuing this calender."

S'all good.

I say the Mayans just got lazy. I mean really, you can't expect them to make a million year old calender.

I disagree
A civilization that makes a calendar this long will not just get lazy
Also this Mayan calendar loops... I seems to loop over and over soooooo

I'd say people getting lazy is more probable than spontaneous destruction of the Earth. Then again, isn't is end of life as we know it? Maybe stupidity will be purged worldwide. We can only hope.

Personally, if I was making that calender, I'd stop after a few thousand years. After all, if your culture survives for those few thousand years, surely that's a good thing.

Do we have a calendar for the year 3010? Year 4010? 8999?

I know they were more bored in those days, but damn.

People confuse me.
Why would anyone accept the Mesoamerican belief that the current cycle of the world will end and a new creation take place? Especially since they don't seem to accept or even know about any other of their weird beliefs.
Then again, I'm confused* as to why people believe lots of inane dribble from pretty much any source.

Besides, the Mesoamerican societies all died out 500 years ago. Probably seemed like a fairly good rapture as far as they were concerned.

*Actually, I'm not confused. All the successful religions employ lots of tricks to draw people in.

Actually, the Mayan calendar has been proved wrong. Apparently it's off by a few thousand years. And not in the "end of the world in 4012" way, the "the world should have ended 1000 years ago" way.

Secondly, the apparent "aligning of the planets" isn't going to happen for 300,000 years (or something) - another disproven fact.

THIRDLY, no one credible has said the world is going to end. Just the same asshats who thought Y2K would end the world (OH SHIT MY COMPUTER THINKS IT'S 1900, THE WORLD IS NOW EXPLODING).

Watch them peddle software / hardware / gadgets / etc come 2012 to prevent you from being killed in the 2012 destruction's....

Just like Y2K was basically a hyped up money making event.. watch 2012 be the same thing... I mean why not.. they proved these doom-and-gloom nonsense scenarios do rake in the money... just look at all the suckers who paid for Y2K preventative patch's, software, it-tech's, etc... lolz
